Choosing the Right Granite Color | Out Of The WoodsGranite countertops are a great addition to any kitchen. They are incredibly durable, because they are made from a durable stone that is resistant to scratches, chips, stains and heat. Due to their durability, granite countertops will always look great, and continue to do so for many years to come. When it comes to deciding what color you’d like to put in your kitchen, consider a few things first. For example, the color of paint on the walls, the type and color of flooring, the color of the backsplash, and the appliance colors, as well. All of these are important to consider, but perhaps the most important part of deciding what color of granite you’d like should be based on your cabinets. Cabinets and countertop are generally together the most, so they should complement each other nicely, and not clash. Here are some of our tips to help you decide the right granite color to coincide with your cabinets:

  • White cabinets– White cabinets have endless possibilities for granite color. They go so well with practically everything! Try to have a clear idea of what you want the end product to look like. If you want more of a modern feel, choose a granite color that is either white, black or gray. If you prefer more of a country-type feel, then consider sticking with more neutral colors such as a browns, golds or tans.
  • Black and Dark Toned Cabinets– If your kitchen already has dark colored cabinets, then you should consider how much natural light comes into your home. If it’s an inadequate amount, then you may want to avoid darker granites, as this can give the kitchen too dark of an appearance. Sticking with lighter, more reflective tones that have darker specs of color in the granite, tend to offer a more complementary appearance to dark cabinets.
  • Oak and Light Toned Cabinets– There are numerous options to choose from if your cabinets are of a lighter color or tone. We recommend trying colors that are multi-colored, and avoid those that are too solid, like blacks or whites.
  • Offer a Sample– If you still need help determining which color of granite will work best for your home, give us a sample to compare in our granite showroom. The easiest way to do this is to print out a few different pictures of the interior of your home, and bring them in for us to examine. If you can bring a sample of your cabinetry to us, that can be helpful in determining a color, as well. Seeing the cabinet color next to the granite will help to make the best overall decision. Also, if you have a backsplash, you may bring a picture or sample of it in as well, to help us better visualize your options.
